I was minding my business, doing my shopping with my earphones in, then I went to the self check out. Up until this point, my experience was quite positive, however, when I was at the check out with my trolley, an employee posted at the checkout seemed to position herself in front of my trolley whilst hawk eyeing me and counting my items. It’s important to note that I am not white, so I felt an element of racial prejudice based on her behaviour. She then started to engage with me in relation to the items I was purchasing, ensuring everything was scanned. I told her that there was no need for her to stand so close and watch me as she was doing, as it made me feel uncomfortable. Her excuse was that it was her job, so I suggested she could continue doing her job with a bit more distance as she was violating my personal space. She lied saying she does this with all clients (I saw her interactions with other customers, hence why I can say it is a lie) and I mentioned that I felt her behaviour to be racially discriminate, to which she responded that this was not true and she had people of colour in her family…this doesn’t justify the behaviour or mean anything to me as family can still dislike each other for various reasons.
This notion of ‘people of colour are all thieves’ really needs to stop, it’s ridiculous and only demonstrates a lack of education, i.e. you’re stupid if you believe it. That woman should feel ashamed of herself.
I spend a lot of my time in hardware stores and today my experience at the KA-Grunwinkel store was simply awesome. The customer service crew at the Montage desk were so attentive, and they went more than the extra mile to help me with a small problem I had with screws that won’t just fit in curtain rods they were made for. They replaced the screws and fitted them in the curtain rods with smiles and laughter. I am one very happy customer.

I’ve been there many times. Last time it was a Saturday at 19:30. Staff was still friendly and willing to explain. They cut some wood for some shelves I was building. Helped me find the right screws for a table and the right insulation material fort a window cover. Great location and staff! Keep it up!

The place is really cool to get the basic stuff there but what I do not like is the rule of the colored gas bottle.
For some reason that I do not get and will never get if you need to change the gas bottle it need to be not colored in red
The red ones should go to another market called OBI
Pretty bad experience with a pickup – didn’t work as announced(had to collect my article at the garden center on my own), had to walk more than expected and it took rather long for a pick up.
The go to home supply store in Wiesloch, which has most of the supplies your going to need as well as many plants for your home. In the entrance area you can also enjoy a quiet good bakery.

The store carries most of what we look for in home improvement, baths and gardening and is in a pleasant location with good access. The store layout is fine and opening hours are generous. The employees seem generally competent regarding our humble needs. At times, the other shoppers are an annoyance at the registers, which is the only reason too detract a star for me. We’re here often and are glad the place is there.
We are moving so required some sticky tape and a connection for the washing machine in our new place. We also needed a mattress cover which was the only item they did not stock, but they had a large tarpaulin which I bought which will do the job. Not the cheapest also not the most expensive. The staff that we encountered were knowledgeable and very friendly.
Always good and full of different options. Never went there and left without what I need. Plants, wood, ink, lights, bathroom stuff, all kind of screws, stuff for cars, carpets, curtains, barbecue utensils, gardening and others.

It is one of the bigger home improvement stores here in the area with a fairly big selection. Most of the time you will find what you are looking for. But I have seen better stores with a comparable size in regards to selection and organization both from this and other chains. Additionally the attitudes of the employees are very heterogeneous. There are those who go out of their way to help you, but there are also certain regulars that seem to believe customers to be a nuisance.
Large selection of hardware, garden and pool supplies. Well laid out, far more spacious than Gruenwinkel store.
As I found out today, absolutely easy and simple to take items back, exchange or get a refund. Thankyou Hornbach! Friendly staff too
My Tomtom sat nav takes the long way to get here but returns home easily to Durlach Karlsruhe! – This kind of shop is not my idea of fun. However Hornbach seem better than the competition. Plenty of parking spaces.

This is the second time I shop at this place, the first time I had real bad experience. This time I did not want to drive all the way to Karlsruhe, and had to bite the bullet and go to this store again. They had mismatching parts of what I wanted, I asked for help and the salesman was rude initially, but then turned around with his attitude and started explaining to me why the mismatch and offered me a better product at higher price. So this was a visit with good experience, right?! No Just wait I went to the garden section to look for insect killer and asked one of the sales associates and she was rude and she looked like she hated coming back to work, man, she was ruuuuuuude dude. I am not sure about this place, it looks like they have no idea how to train their employees how to deal with customer. Too bad
What I know is that I have insisted several days and times to get some fishes which is not suitable to my aquarium due to size but they have not sold those fiches to me…I appreciate their job and their humanity on this issue…thanks a lot
